7) Re-write your weakest answer in full (or, if it was the essay question, write out a full essay plan). Use the mark scheme to identify anticipated content you can add to your response and make sure your typed re-draft is a top-level answer.
Using Stuart Hall's Theory we can see the dominant readings of the magazines is that using an opinion leader will influence the audience to support the magazine barbecue the celebrity supports them. Also the use of the word, "badass" to show how this magazine is definitely targeted towards teenagers and young adults and if they read the magazine they are on trend. Also, what the celebrity is wearing implies that he is rich and if you as an audience read the magazine, you will be seen as superior. Also the category on the side of the magazine has ‘Athletes’ or ’Politicians’ to show it provides more then music and is very varied.
The negotiated reading would be that the magazine maybe reinforcing black stereotypes of (‘Sex, drugs and R&B’). Also the use of informal language like 'Bada$$' could be about embracing the street culture or the lack of education. Also the title on the magazine "Who is music’s number one genius?" can be taken in many different views and interpreted.
The counter-hegemonic reading could be that the magazine is influencing their audience in a negative way. Also the use of font and colour for the word 'drug' is very casual which almost promotes drugs as causal substance. Also in the bottom right it states "We dare you to disagree" with a star on top which can be interpreted in a negative way because it seems the company is challenging its audience and if they do disagree, the will withdraw from reading the magazine.
