Narrative
1) Give an example from film or television that uses Todorov's narrative structure of equilibrium, disequilibrium and new equilibrium.
A movie that uses Todorov's narrative structure is Wallace and Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit because in the beginning there is an annual Giant Vegetable Competition and rabbits are eating vegetables. This creates a problem that needs solving. Then the plot continues and the problem because more complicated and then at the ending Gromit battles to save Wallace before it is too late and this provides the climax to the film.
2) Complete the activity on page 1 of the Factsheet: find a clip on YouTube of the opening of a new TV drama series (season 1, episode 1). Embed the clip in your blog and write an analysis of the narrative markers that help establish setting, character and plot.

The beginning scene is the house and the living room so it establishes where the majority of the show will be placed and what shall be seen frequently. Also right at the beginning, it shows all the main characters so as audience its clear to see the episodes will be based around them. Also, Stewie who is a baby using the screwdriver and the manner he talks in clearly shows the plot of the show isn't exactly going to be normal and the genre will most likely be a comedy.

In the Lord of the rings, the film has a villain who is Sauron, a donor who is is Gandalf and a Fredo who is the hero.

- Episodic narrative (the series)
The narrative revolves around one episode eg. Family guy
- Overarching narrative (the serial)
The serial usually has a narrative that covered over a series and each episode is usually left with clif hanger to make the reader continue reading.
- Mixed narrative
This is a combination of both narratives, for example, there can be small conflicts in each episode but there can also be a problem that reoccurs through the episodes and takes more episodes to resolve for example Friends.
- Multi-strand overlapping narrative (soap narrative)
These have a continuous narrative and they tell a number of different
stories at the same time
